When you are a trainee you are sometimes assigned a group made by the company for you to then work with and maybe one day debut with. This wasn't the case for Stray Kids. Leader Bang Chan created the group on his own without the company's help. This is why the founder J.Y.Park had them show off their skills in the survival show. Since he had no say in the formation of the group the show was supposed to showcase each member's abilities to J.Y.Park so that he could alter the group if needed before their debut. The group was given numerous tasks where they had to write, compose, and produce their own songs, create their own dances to go along with it, and then showcase it to JYP. Every time they were evaluated certain members would be at risk of eliminations. Throughout the show two members, Lee Know and Felix, were eliminated from the show but were ultimately brought back into the lineup after a final evaluation of the 7vs9 member line up. JYP thought the group was better with the original 9 members in the end. The group created their first ever mini album together during that survival show. They also released their first ever music video with the mini album. The name of both the mini album and music video are Hellevator which was meant to symbolize the struggle most go through when trying to achieve their dreams or goals. They taking an elevator out of hell and to a more peaceful setting. The music video currently has 65 million views. Click here to listen.
